We help people live better lives through better health.
We will be our region's first choice for health and wellness.
Better health begins here.
Over the past year, our not-for-profit health system has continued our steadfast commitment to improve the health of our fast-growing community. Ours is a mission of service that began nearly 75 years ago and continues today.
Our team of 2,500 health care professionals leads the way, transforming health and wellness across our region. Together, we are bringing new technologies, new facilities and new services to the Grand Strand, bettering lives and our community as a whole.
At Tidelands Health, we deliver advanced, high-quality care and treatment in service to our community. The examples of this commitment to excellence are many.
Our health system has launched the industry-leading Epic electronic patient medical record platform and the My Tidelands Health app featuring MyChart -- digital tools that are helping transform the delivery of health care in our region. Representing a $40 million investment, these new technologies enable providers to work within a comprehensive and consolidated platform and better connect patients to health care.
Our alignment with MUSC Health improves access to highly complex care, as well as to leading clinical trials. In early 2023, the Tidelands Health Cancer Care Network was named the first full MUSC Hollings Cancer Network member. MUSC Hollings Cancer Center is South Carolina’s only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center.
In 2023, we expanded women’s health services by adding providers and locations, helping meet a growing need in our community. Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital became just the second hospital in the nation and first in South Carolina to earn advanced certification in perinatal care from The Joint Commission. In addition, Tidelands Waccamaw has been designated as Baby-Friendly by the World Health Organization and UNICEF for offering optimal care for mothers and their babies.
Our health system again earned multiple high-performing ratings from U.S. News & World Report and Zero Harm awards from the South Carolina Hospital Association. Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital was also re-certified as Age Friendly. In addition to providing a high level of care, the MUSC Health Tidelands Health Radiation Therapy Center again earned the Human Experience Guardian of Excellence Award from Press Ganey for exceptional patient experience.
Our $40 million investment in Epic and related technologies created a single, unified medical record for every patient at our health system, enabling providers to work within a comprehensive and consolidated platform and better connecting patients to health care through the new My Tidelands Health app featuring MyChart.
Quality health care should be easily accessible to all in our community.
Tidelands Health is proud to offer a range of initiatives and programs supporting accessibility through Tidelands Community Care Network and specialized community programs such as diabetes prevention and positive parenting.
Since its beginning in 2012, Tidelands Community Care Network has served more than 8,600 residents thanks, in part, to the unwavering support of generous partners such as The Leon Levine Foundation, which recently awarded a multi-year grant to Tidelands Health.
Recognizing the importance of instilling healthy habits from a young age, we've also dedicated resources to youth wellness initiatives. Each year, we provide free sports physicals to Georgetown County athletes, helping promote physical activity and eliminate barriers to sports participation. Additionally, we proudly partner with Teens and Tweens Be Well, a comprehensive program designed to foster healthy eating and exercise habits among adolescents.
Our commitment to the health and betterment of our community can also be seen in programs such as A Walk in the Garden, a collaboration between Tidelands Health and Brookgreen Gardens, helping eligible patients boost physical activity, and Better for Life, a free membership program specifically designed for individuals 50 and older.
Partnerships with other organizations and events help us reach beyond the walls of our care locations to help people live better lives through better health.
As the exclusive health system partner of YMCA of Coastal Carolina, Tidelands Health offers health education programming in YMCA facilities and supports initiatives including the Safety Around Water program, which teaches second graders water safety for free.
Tidelands Health serves as the official health system of the Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers and the official health care provider of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans baseball team. When 35,000 people attend the Carolina Country Music Fest in Myrtle Beach every June, they benefit from health tips and on-site medical care provided by Tidelands Health, which continues its partnership as the official health care provider of the festival.
Tidelands Health also gives back to the community through financial and in-kind donations, supporting organizations such as the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Ground Zero and Smith Medical Clinic, a non-profit that offers medical care for low-income uninsured residents in Georgetown County.
Additionally, we work with others to find solutions to challenges we face together. Nearly $300,000 of an opioid settlement fund awarded to Georgetown County was allocated to Tidelands Health to expand an innovative and successful peer recovery program at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital and Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital.
After Alexis Prue suffered a medical emergency in early 2023, everyday tasks like walking and speaking became incredibly difficult. One year later, Alexis is regaining her independence one step at a time, thanks to Tidelands Health Neurological Rehabilitation Center.
