What You Can Expect
- You will remain fully clothed while being scanned by our state-of-the-art CT scanner.
- There are no injected dyes or invasive procedures, and there is no need to drink any special fluids.
- The screening will last less than 15 minutes.
Are You a Candidate?
You may be a candidate for Heart Scan if you have at least one of the following risk factors:
- You are between the ages of 45 and 85
- You smoke
- You are living with diabetes, high cholesterol or high blood pressure
- You have a family history of heart disease
- You are overweight or obese
- You are physically inactive
Heart Scan can suggest the presence of coronary artery disease even when your arteries are less than 50 percent blocked. This is important, because more than half of all heart attacks occur with less than a 50 percent narrowing of the arteries.
Taking the Next Step
Heart Scan is offered at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital and Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Test results will be interpreted by a board-certified radiologist and provided to your family physician for follow-up. The cost for Heart Scan is $150, and a physician referral is required. An additional radiology interpretation fee is applied. Please note most insurance plans do not cover the cost of this screening test or additional interpretation fee.
