Education is at the heart of our community. Here, you’ll find high-performing public, private, parochial and charter schools, as well as two universities, a technical college and trade schools.  

K-12 education 

Horry County School District serves 46,000 students across 56 schools, making it the third-largest school district in South Carolina. Meanwhile, Georgetown County School District serves more than 8,300 students at 19 schools.  

Both districts offer rigorous, standards-driven instruction, personalized learning plans, extensive use of classroom technology, fine arts, clubs, athletics and much more.   

In addition, families interested in an alternative to public school can choose from a variety of private and charter schools across our region.  

Higher education 

Students interested in pursuing an advanced degree will find a wealth of opportunities along the Grand Strand.  

Tidelands Health is proud to be the official health system of the Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers. CCU is a comprehensive, public liberal arts institution that serves more than 10,000 students at its beautiful campus in Conway, located in Horry County. The university offers more than 100 undergraduate and more than 30 graduate-level major fields of study, including specialized concentrations across six academic colleges.  

Horry-Georgetown Technical College, a comprehensive, two-year community/technical college, offers more than 70  associate degree, diploma and certificate programs at its three conveniently located campuses across the Grand Strand. A longtime Tidelands Health educational partner, the college provides an ideal setting for students who are seeking rapid entry into the workforce or are interested in ultimately transferring to another institution to pursue a bachelor's degree. 

Through its Myrtle Beach location and online, Webster University also offers a wide variety of programs online and in person.
