Tidelands Health Extended Care Hospital

At Tidelands Health, we’re committed to supporting our growing region’s need for accessible, high-quality health care. 

That’s why we’re planning to construct Tidelands Health Extended Care Hospital, a 24-bed long-term acute care hospital to be located within the planned Tidelands Health Carolina Bays Hospital at the interchange of Highway 31 and S.C. 707 in south Horry County.

This “hospital within a hospital” will provide care to patients with complex medical needs who require extended hospital stays to support their recovery following serious injury or illness. The hospital will offer extended respiratory therapy, treatment for complications from diabetes, complex wound therapy and more. 

There are currently no long-term acute care hospital beds in Horry or Georgetown counties, and the nearest long-term acute care hospital is more than an hour away. 

The need for long-term acute care in our area is large and increasing. On any given day in 2020, an average 104 adult Horry and Georgetown County residents were hospitalized for more than 20 days, an increase of 36 percent compared to 2017, according to state figures. 

Nationally, long-term acute care hospitals have proven extremely beneficial in the treatment of patients suffering from severe COVID-19 infections that require long-term hospitalizations, as well as those with serious lingering pulmonary or cardiovascular symptoms stemming from COVID-19 infections. 

The planned long-term acute care hospital will represent a $17.6 million investment in our community.
