Tidelands Health earns SCHA’s highest award to honor system’s work building healthy communities
Tidelands Health has been selected as an inaugural winner of the Capstone Award, the highest honor presented by the South Carolina Hospital Association and Live Healthy SC, the state’s first-ever health improvement plan.
The not-for-profit community health system is one of just two health systems in South Carolina to earn the statewide award for exemplary efforts to improve the health of patients, team members and the community.
The Capstone Award was presented to two health systems – Tidelands Health and MUSC Health – on Wednesday in Columbia. The award serves as the highest honor SCHA bestows each year and represents the expansive efforts and extraordinary results South Carolina hospitals are achieving for their patients and communities every day.
“We are delighted to present our inaugural Capstone Award to Tidelands Health,” said Thornton Kirby, president and CEO of the South Carolina Hospital Association. “The skilled, compassionate professionals at Tidelands Health are truly making a difference in coastal South Carolina and raising the bar statewide through their innovative and dedicated efforts to help patients, team members and community residents live healthier lives.”
Tidelands Health was recognized for numerous innovative initiatives that further the health system’s mission to help people live better lives through better health.
For example, since 2015, Tidelands Health has led an organization-wide high reliability initiative that has enhanced a culture of safety by engaging its board on the issue and creating a robust reporting system for quality and patient safety incidents. In addition, Tidelands Health is a leader in expanding access and care through its Tidelands Community Care Network, a regional initiative designed to help uninsured and underinsured individuals access timely care.
Tidelands Health has also made community health a top priority, providing community education about healthier living and hosting events that provide health screenings to the public at little or no cost.
“Our success at Tidelands Health is measured by each life we are able to improve through our highly reliable patient care, our innovative community outreach programs and our comprehensive wellness initiatives for our team members,” said Bruce Bailey, president and CEO of Tidelands Health. “To be recognized as a statewide leader is a testament to our team’s exemplary efforts and forward-thinking approaches as we fulfill our mission to help people live better lives through better health.”
