Get your flu shot during convenient clinics at local YMCA locations
To encourage community members to protect themselves against the flu, YMCA of Coastal Carolina and Tidelands Health are offering convenient flu shot clinics this week and next. Tidelands Health is the exclusive health system partner of YMCA of Coastal Carolina, and the two organizations regularly collaborate to improve community health.
Flu shots will be available at the following times and locations:
- Wednesday, Dec. 7, 7:30-9:30 a.m., Tidelands Health Georgetown Family YMCA, 529 Browns Ferry Road, Georgetown
- Thursday, Dec. 8, 4-7 p.m., Claire Chapin Epps Family YMCA, 5000 Claire Chapin Epps Drive, Myrtle Beach
- Wednesday, Dec. 14, 9:30-11:30 a.m., Tidelands Health Pawleys Family YMCA, 12965 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island
The cost to receive a flu shot is $25, which is covered by most insurance plans. Attendees should bring their insurance card, if applicable.
The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control reports that the state is having its most active flu season of the last decade. A rise in cases of respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, also is contributing to a drastic rise in respiratory illnesses over the past few months.
Flu season typically peaks between December and February. Individuals six months and older are encouraged to get a flu shot.
“It’s crucial to get your flu shot and take all preventive measures to limit your risk of infection heading into what is usually the busiest time for flu spread,” said Dr. Sean Nguyen, a family medicine physician at Tidelands Health Medical Park at The Market Common in Myrtle Beach. “We have already treated a large number of flu cases, and we expect that number to grow as temperatures turn colder and we spend more time indoors, which can lead to more spread. Please get your flu shot now to protect yourself and help limit the spread.”
In addition to getting a flu shot, it’s important to wash your hands frequently and stay home and away from others if you are not feeling well.
