Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital is taking extra steps to help older patients receive high-quality, age-friendly care.

The main entrance at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital. The Georgetown hospital has earned the Age-Friendly Health System participant designation for meeting strict standards in the delivery of health care to older adults. Through a rigorous review, Tidelands Georgetown confirmed its commitment to providing age-appropriate care using the evidence-based 4Ms framework model.

The John. A. Hartford Foundation and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, in partnership with the American Hospital Association and the Catholic Health Association of the United States, developed the Age-Friendly Health System initiative to help meet the needs of the growing population of older adults nationwide. Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet earned the designation in 2020.

“Tidelands Health is committed to providing high-quality care tailored to patients of every age – from pediatrics through geriatrics,” said Jonella Davis, vice president of operations. “Older patients often have unique health care needs. Earning this age-friendly designation confirms Tidelands Georgetown’s commitment to adhering to evidence-based practices in caring for the many older residents in our growing community.”

To meet the initiative’s criteria, Tidelands Georgetown demonstrated its commitment to care of older adults using the 4Ms framework model by focusing on what matters to the patient; using age-friendly medication, when needed; preventing and managing conditions including dementia, depression and delirium; and maintaining mobility by helping older adults move safely every day.

“It is truly our privilege to provide high-quality, age-friendly care to the older residents in our community,” Davis said. “Our care teams at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital and Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital are focused on our mission of helping people live better lives through better health – at all ages.”
