Tidelands Health awards annual scholarships to current, future health care professionals

Tidelands Health is investing in current and future health care professionals by awarding nearly $30,000 in scholarships this year.

Each graduating senior received a $1,000 scholarship to pursue a health-related degree. The recipients: Ellie Krauss of St. James High School, pursing a nursing degree at Anderson University; 

Jenna Baker of Waccamaw High School, pursing a nursing degree at Liberty University; 

Wae Man Chan of the Scholars Academy, pursuing a biological sciences degree at University of South Carolina Honors College; and Braelyn Garman of Carvers Bay High School, pursing a biological sciences degree at Clemson University.

In addition, five Tidelands Health teams each received a $5,000 scholarship to continue a course of study in a health care field at an accredited college or school. This year’s recipients: Abby Miller, Elizabeth Benton, Barbara Miner, Abigail Simpson and Marissa McCaslin.

“We applaud this year’s scholarship recipients for their talent, drive to learn and dedication to help others,” said Jessica Sasser, executive director of the Tidelands Health Foundation. “Our health system is committed to supporting current and future health care professionals to serve our growing region with skill and compassion.”

The scholarship program, part of the McRoy and Jo Skipper Initiative for Learning and Teaching at Tidelands Health, is funded through donations to the Tidelands Health Foundation and the annual Lights of Love holiday campaign.

In addition to scholarships, the Skipper Initiative provides nursing internships, leadership development of team members, mentorship programs and more.
