Donate blood at one of several Tidelands Health blood drives July 22
Mark your calendar: Donate blood July 22.
Tidelands Health is partnering with the American Red Cross and The Blood Connection to sponsor blood drives at several locations to keep blood supplies flowing amid the usual summer decline in donations.
With drives scheduled throughout the day in Murrells Inlet, Pawleys Island and Georgetown, donors can find a location convenient for them.
The blood drives scheduled for July 22:
- 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tidelands Health Pawleys Family YMCA, 12965 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island. Schedule an appointment: redcrossblood.org
- 8:30-11:30 a.m., Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital, 606 Black River Road, Georgetown. Schedule an appointment: thebloodconnection.org
- 2-5 p.m., Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital, 4070 U.S. 17 South, Murrells Inlet. Schedule an appointment: thebloodconnection.org
- 2:30-5:30 p.m., Tidelands Health Pawleys Family YMCA, 12965 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island. Schedule an appointment: thebloodconneciton.org
Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment online, though walk-ins are welcome.
Blood supplies typically dwindle during the summer months as many regular donors take vacations and blood drives at schools are paused for the season. In addition, people travel and spend more time outdoors, leading to accidents and medical procedures that require transfusions.
Blood supplies are essential for patients undergoing certain surgical procedures or cancer treatments, as well those as battling chronic illnesses or traumatic injuries. A single blood donation has a shelf life of only 42 days, so donations from community members are continuously needed to keep supplies replenished.
