Groups put the ‘fun’ in fundraising for the Tidelands Health breast care fund
Golf tournaments. Luncheons. Silent auctions.
Events and fundraising efforts organized by generous groups across the region during October are supporting the Tidelands Health breast care fund.
To date, group events have brought in more than $25,000. Those monies, when combined with donations in support of the 19th annual Tidelands Health In the Pink breast cancer awareness walk held earlier this month, mean more than $200,000 has been donated to support the Tidelands Health breast care fund this year.
“We are incredibly grateful to these organizations for caring about others in our community and taking action through their events and fundraisers to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors,” said Beth Conatser, director of philanthropy at Tidelands Health.
The groups come up with the fundraising ideas and execute them on their own. Many have made their fundraising for Tidelands Health an annual tradition during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Golf groups, social clubs and restaurants are among the organizations holding fundraisers with the proceeds going to the not-for-profit health care provider.
Every year for roughly a decade, the Wachesaw Ladies 18-holers have organized a golf tournament, which has expanded through the years to include a tennis tournament, silent auction, luncheon and more. This year, the “Rally for the Cure” raised nearly $15,000 – a record amount for the event with more than 100 golfers participating and nearly 30 players in the tennis tournament.
The fundraising lasts all October at Dagwood’s Deli and Sports Bar, which sells shirts, stickers and pink ribbon signs that cover the walls of the restaurant’s locations in Surfside Beach and North Myrtle Beach. This year, the effort is expected to bring in roughly $3,000 thanks to the dedication of the restaurant’s management and the generous spirit of its customers.
The Debordieu Club donated $4,500 raised through a tennis tournament and luncheon, and the Mariner’s Pointe Social Club donated $3,050.
Sundown Restaurant and Sports Pub in Surfside Beach has its annual Bra Ha Ha event Saturday to cap this year’s fundraising efforts for breast care, which started in 2021 as part of the family-owned restaurant’s commitment to support cancer-related organizations.
“It’s amazing to see the creative and fun ways organizations in our community raise money for this important cause,” Conatser said. “We’re eager to see what groups come up with next year. Regardless of the way money is raised, it supports health care right here in our community. These generous groups demonstrate how much of a difference an organization or business can make.
“We thank all of these groups for donating their time, effort and proceeds to support breast care in our community.”
