Tidelands Health completes ‘epic’ conversion to unified electronic medical record platform, launches new app for consumers

Tidelands Health has completed its conversion to the industry-leading Epic electronic medical record platform, ushering in streamlined delivery of health care through a single, integrated system.

The technology enables providers to work within a comprehensive and consolidated platform and better connects patients to their health care through MyChart, which can be accessed via the all-new My Tidelands Health app.

Epic launched at Tidelands Health acute-care hospitals and at outpatient locations in early March.

“This is a monumental advancement for our patients, community and health system,” said Bruce Bailey, Tidelands Health president and CEO. “From the implementation of the Epic medical record platform to the launch of the My Tidelands Health app featuring MyChart, our patients will experience improved access and care coordination.”

The not-for-profit health system invested $40 million and spent more than 18 months converting to Epic, launching the My Tidelands Health app and implementing related technologies.

Because Tidelands Health is the region’s MUSC Health affiliate, the Tidelands Health Epic platform is integrated with the MUSC Health Epic system. That means patients and providers will have a holistic view of a patient’s care across both organizations.

In addition, a patient’s MyChart medical record in Epic can easily be shared across locations, providers and medical offices inside and outside of the Tidelands Health network, providing efficient and cohesive care for patients.

“The needs of our patients were at the forefront during every stage of the development and implementation of Epic at Tidelands Health,” said Dr. Phil Dulberger, executive vice president and chief physician executive. “The efficiencies of the Epic platform combined with the expertise of our providers and care team members will elevate patient care. In addition, from scheduling appointments to requesting prescription refills, patients will benefit from an enhanced digital experience.”

Over the past few months, Tidelands Health team members have received extensive training in Epic. Still, with a change of this magnitude, patients may experience temporary delays as team members adjust to the new platform and workflows.

“We thank our patients for their patience as we launch these new technologies, which will offer remarkable benefits and a smoother experience following our go-live period,” said Gayle Resetar, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Tidelands Health. “We encourage everyone to download the My Tidelands Health app featuring MyChart, which enables patients to easily book appointments, check-in for appointments, request refills, message providers, pay bills and more.”

The My Tidelands Health app also offers a robust provider directory, turn-by-turn navigation to Tidelands Health locations and engaging health content. The free app is available for download now in the App Store and Google Play Store.
