Tidelands Health IT leader shares expertise as panelist during national health care conference
Tidelands Health’s successful implementation of an integrated electronic medical record this year was part of a panel discussion at a national health care conference this month.
Will Johnson, the health system’s chief information officer, served as a panelist at the Becker’s Healthcare annual meeting and conference in Chicago. Johnson joined three other industry leaders leading a session focused on electronic health records, or EHRs, and titled, “Successfully Transition to a Single EHR: What Great Leaders Do Differently.”
Earlier this year, Tidelands Health implemented Epic, an integrated medical record platform that ushered in more streamlined delivery of health care. Used by leading hospitals and health systems around the world, Epic enables providers to work within a comprehensive and consolidated platform and better connects patients to their health care through the MyChart patient portal.
Tidelands Health spent more than 18 months converting to Epic, launching the My Tidelands Health app featuring MyChart and implementing related technologies.
“One of the keys to a successful launch of a platform like Epic is developing new workflows and processes to make the most of the technology. It’s crucial to engage operational leaders, set your guiding principles and train team members. Our entire team, led by a dedicated steering committee, rallied around this new platform – another key to our success,” Johnson said. “With the successful implementation of Epic, our patients benefit from coordinated care and more streamlined access to their medical information at their fingertips. Implementing Epic has been a game-changer in the delivery of care.”
Johnson is an information technology specialist with more than 25 years of experience, including more than a dozen years in health care leadership.
He was among more than 2,500 executives and leaders at health systems from across the country who attended the Becker’s Healthcare annual meeting. During the four days of sessions, leaders discussed a range of topics including health IT, workforce, finance, executive leadership, value-based care, telehealth and more.
The conference brings leaders together to exchange best practices to advance patient care and enhance operational efficiencies.
