Tidelands Health residency program earns national reaccreditation
The Tidelands Health MUSC Family Medicine Residency Program has earned reaccreditation for maintaining strict national standards.
The program, which welcomed its first class of physician residents in 2017, earned the reaccreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education after a thorough review and evaluation process. ACGME is a not-for-profit, physician-led organization responsible for accrediting graduate medical training programs for physicians in the United States.
“Earning reaccreditation through our demonstrated compliance with ACGME’s strict requirements is a testament to our commitment to providing a challenging, innovative and collaborative environment for future physician leaders to learn and grow,” said Dr. Mike Malone, director of the Tidelands Health residency program.
Developed with support from the Medical University of South Carolina, the three-year residency program provides post-graduate training for physicians who have earned their medical degrees.
In addition to providing clinical training and experience, the residency program includes a focus on transformational leadership that helps physicians become high-impact leaders who understand the health care environment and develop essential business and leadership skills.
Tidelands Health developed the residency program, based at Tidelands Health Medical Park at Holmestown Road, to attract family medicine physicians to help meet the need for additional primary care doctors in the fast-growing region.
After completing their residency at Tidelands Health, numerous physicians have joined the health system as family medicine physicians seeing patients in practices from Andrews to Myrtle Beach.
“Our residency program is helping attract quality physicians to our region to help meet the growing need for family medicine physicians to serve our patients and community,” Dr. Malone said.
